παρὰ τὸ μὴ δύνασθαι Κύριον εἰσαγαγεῖν τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ὤμοσεν αὐτοῖς, κατέστρωσεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ.

Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, he laid them low in the wilderness.
